So New York magazine – a magazine we enjoy and whose opinion is v influential in Yanky-Doodlies-Ville – has named London the capital of the world.
*rapturous applause. Followed by party poppers, copious amounts of shandy booze, and people drowning in their own vomit*
Now this is something we’ve known for a long time, but it’s always been a moot point with those New Yorkers… but well, you know, there you go etc., blah.
Anyways, here is what said magazine doth say on the matter:
‘If Paris was the capital of the 19th Century* and New York of the 20th, London is shaping up to be the capital of the 21st Century.’
*We’d actually go as far as to say London was the capital of the 19th Century as well. What with the Empire and the Industrial Revolution and the invention of the wheel and all that business. But we wouldn’t want to milk it. That would seem churlish.
Oh but wait, there’s more:
‘It is not Britain and the US that have a special relationship, it is London and New York… increasingly, it seems as though London has the upper hand.’
ps. We do of course j’adore Nuovo York, and have enjoyed many a Nuovo Yorkian in our time. Also thanks.
