Even better than surreal thing…

New V&A show kicks off with a pretty strange party…

Slim Shadey

The waiters wore lampshades on their heads, the champagne pourers (male) wore red satin basques and the waitresses with giant spiders on their heads served hot sausage out of giant cabbages. It could only be the very dressy launch of the V&A’s fabby new Surreal Thing show…

All the world's a...

And tear away from the gallons of free champagne if you could, the show was actually rather spectacular. Walk in through a de Chirico stage set up thing and then peruse the giant Dali’s, the fabulous Schiapparelli frocks, furniture that actually very haveable and not at all surreal and some major shizz by the likes of Miro, Cocteau and Diana Ross (or someone).

We wanted it all and found we could actually buy some of it (or a facsimile thereof) in the V&A’s lavish new gift shoppe. It starts now and it ends, ooh, in a long time. And while you’re there, check out the gardens and the new caffs.
