If airport lounges get any hotter, we ain’t flying out nowhere!

Sydney and Melbourne unveil new 1st class lounges that make actual holidays redundant.

Comfy

With Virgin Atlantic having upped the ante on the old airport lounge front with its Heathrow superlounge, other airlines are battling to stay in the game. Ahead of the pack is Qantas, who will be unveiling (this is a sneaky sneak peek) this very week lounges in Sydney and Melbourne designed by British, erm, designer Marc Newson, the person behind that nice metalic chaise longue Madonna reclined uponsideof in her ‘Rain’ video. See more loveliness from Down Under here…

It’s set the airline back a cool $20 million Australian dollars (which would buy you, ooooh, a battered sausage and some pork scracklings in real English money) and it contains a day spa, a library, marble shower suites and all the conveniences of a modern five-star hotel (not counting the Gideon’s Bible and the hairs on the blankets). It is for 1st class passengers flying with Qantas only, so now you know the sort of style you should expect next time you’re heading down for Mardi Gras.

Oooh! And again!

  2. Err … it’s in Australia, where there’s nearly as many Australians as over here in London. Henceforth, it will be shit.
