Brand new swanky London hotel – bring sunglasses!
They’re not afraid of colour, that Tim and Kit Kemp, the characters behind the brand new Haymarket Hotel in London’s glittering, guess where?, Haymarket (next to the theatre where Maggie Smith’s on at the moment). As anyone who’s ever been into their Covent Garden Hotel or their Soho Hotel will tell you, it’s all about impact and squiggly little touches. And now they’ve had a John Nash building to play with. Who he? say you…
He, the John Nash person, is the architect behind understated little numbers like Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, so it’s no surprise that the Haymarket has a huge 18 metre swimming pool (with fancy light design) and even an old shooting gallery, where young bucks of yesteryear would come to practice blowing each other’s heads off (now a private dining room seating 80 people).
The 50 rooms are all individually kitted out in the Kemps’ trademark contemporary-meets-olde-worlde style and you can choose anything between a double – from £245 a night – to a two-room suite, which will set you back from £2,250 (or – if you’re really brave – ask them about the price on the four-level townhouse). We’ll probably start small with an espresso martini in the Brumus bar.
