Justin on the man that almost made him give up his career! Dramatic enough for you?
Reading about the arrest in Thailand of former N’Sync (and Backstreet Boys) supremo Lou Pearlman for, ahem, financial irregularities, we couldn’t help but remember the time we got chatting to Justin Timberlake about his experience of the man. But at least he never touched Justin: ‘The idea is actually kind of funny and disgusting…’
So, you had problems with your second N’Sync record…
We wondered why we weren’t seeing any compensation for what we were doing… We were like, ‘I don’t get it. Is this what’s supposed to happen or are you supposed to get more for your effort?’
Were you all scared? Were you like, ‘You ask him. I’m not asking him…’?
Yeah. I think at first. I believe in people, you know. I’ve got this whole, not virginal, but almost square way of thinking that people have got good intentions. I will say that when the whole thing was over I was crushed. That was the only time in my life I looked at everything and said, ‘Well, this isn’t worth this. I don’t want to do this at all.’
There were rumours that he was trying it on with you guys as well…
No! I will say he never tried anything like that. That’s actually quite funny and kind of disgusting.
Did we give you a nice mental image?
[Laughing] Yes. Thank you. I’ll be stuck with that… No, basically, Lou… I don’t like to talk bad about people but anything that’s involved with him, I’d never work with it. I just think, you know, saying he’s a greedy bastard would be giving him too much credit.
And if you’re wondering what that mental image might be…
