Try and ignore the crease in this picture…
So, it’s her first solo album, it’s called Mantaray, and it’s not out until September. There are ten tracks on it and it, apparently, ‘shows her searching for a sense of her place in the world. It’s altogether a more human, humane record than she has ever made, and all the better for it…’
Here’s what we thought of the tracks we heard… Let’s just say, you won’t be disappointed.
Into A Swan
This is all about coming back with lyrics like ‘… a new awakening’ and starts with the sound of feedback… There’s a robotic feel to it and it’s totally on the money as regards a nu-rave pop feel. The rawness of her voice has us feeling top notes of Courtney Love and maybe Patti Smith. Even a female Jack White!
About to Happen
This has a Giorgio Moroder vibe to it, especially on the chorus, and is definitely more poppy. There are even handclaps.
Here Comes That Day
Bring on the horns, bring on the anger, bring on the snarling. With lyrics like ‘Your house of cards is tumbling down around you’, it’s the ‘fuck you’ song of the album. And not in an Avril Lavigne way either.
This one is plain eerie…
If It Doesn’t Kill You
This kicks off with a very Blackpool Beach-sounding Wurlitzer before the voice – quite Debbie Harry, in a totally good way – creeps in for another blinder.
The Me-Me-Me Verdict.
We’re freaking loving it so far, bring on the rest.
Siouxsie is back! With her first solo album! And we've heard it! And we kinda love it!,
