Lovers of flamboyant gay men on the telly are going to be rolling down their stockings and rougeing their knees at the news that there’s going to be a sequel to the dolliest of all docu-dramas, The Naked Civil Servant, starring John Hurt as a fancy-coiffed Quentin Crisp, which went out, ooh, sometime in the 70s. Very long time ago. In the infancy of dolly docu-dramas.
Well, that wasn’t the end of the story…
ITV have now commissioned a 90-minute sequel called An Englishman in New York, again based on the musings of Mr Crisp on his life in New York in the 1980s and 90s. It’s all set to start filming in the spring and is expected to go out sometime in autumn. The only thing is, John Hurt hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet.
Get with wrinkly!
