Fresh from retrieving lace collars from deep withinside a pussycat in Cranford, on Her Maj’s BBC the First, Julia McKenzie has been named as the new Miss Marple. We admit to a slight sadness that t’wont be Dame Julie Walters stepping into the very sensible Clarks’ Aunty Jean lesbian brogues previously worn by Geraldine McEwan, as rumour had it, but we j’adore Julia and approve of this casting muchos. That means a lot.
Ooh, here’s a quote:
‘I’m very excited but also slightly daunted by the enormous responsibility that comes with taking on such an inconic role.
‘Just about everybody in the world knows about Miss Marple and has an opinion of what she should be like, so I’m under no illusions about the size of the task ahead. And I suppose I’ll have to remind myself how to knit.’
