A room with quite some view

Side-by-side classic roll-top baths on their own mezzanine might pique your interest, while the idea of 10-foot windows, crystal chandeliers and a snooky breakfast nook will all make you sit up and take notice.
But just wait till we tell you that from certain rooms in Manchester’s Great John Street Hotel you can actually see the houses in Coronation Street…
Set in a tiny, quiet road in central Manchester’s Castlefield, a hop, skip and totter along cobbles from Granada studios, where Coronation Street is filmed, the Great John Street Hotel is such a gem, we might just get it set in a new necklace.
Taking over an entire converted school - once they tell you, you can see the ’schoolishness’ in the windows and doors and floors - it’s lush and ecclectic with roccoco touches rubbing alongside 40s deco and ultra-modern ’sand-blaster’ showers. There’s a buzzy little bar, with immacculate service, a mezzanine breakfast area that’s so secluded and cosy it’s almost like breakfast in bed and a rather lovely roof terrace where cocktails are served as dusk falls over central Manchester. And Coronation Street.

I’ve been here. I love it. And there’s another one from the same team in Didsbury.
I’ve been in that bedroom when it first opened. They left a bowl of fruit in the room, specialistically iced on ice. However, when I got right to the bottom I found a rotten old plum that must have been there for about a year. And also - the waitress came into the bedroom and started cleaning while I was having a poo. Then tried to force her way in the Bathroom. Was ultrastressful.
