Being jolly aka obese aka lardy is in the genes… apparently

You're the one for me, fattyHmm, Oprah off-of Winfrey off-of taking over the world has endorsed a new diet plan that claims that – for want of a better description – being a fatty is all in the genes. Genes that presumably don’t exist in Nigeria.

Diet guru Dr Peter D’Adamo has identified six categories that we all fit into. The hunter, the teacher, the explorer, the gatherer, the warrior and the nomad. Frankly these sounds more like the yogic positions we attempted to do without passing wind last night, but if Oprah’s a fan, it must be ok, right?

Meanwhile Dr. Me-Me-Me identified some alternative categories that also aide weight loss. The pig, the lumpen, the troll, the sloth, the grub and the beginning-to-sag beachball.

Both of the above diets are tried and tested and mainly involve putting down the breadcrumbed product and replacing with something that doesn’t glow-in-the-dark with chemicals and fat.

  1. Not only don’t they have the fat genes in NIgeria, but in the whole of the African continent. Except South Africa, where democracy and free trade and therefore McDonalds have slipped in….

  3. I tried the ‘stop eating crisps and go to the gym’ diet and you know, it worked wonders. Must be my miraculous genes.

  4. What Oprah has is called “thrifty” genes, where no matter what she eats, and no matter how hard she works out, she will always have a “padded” look. Those genes were set en utero. The idea of using foods to switch genes off and on is nothing new, and Dr. D’Adamo didn’t invent it–google it to read more. Dr. D’Adamo has written a fantastic book called The GenoType Diet which is designed to reset some of those genes. I’m a Warrior and have been following the diet for about 9 months. Before that, for 3 years, I ate according to his Live Right 4 Your Type book. I’m a Type A non-secretor. They are both fantastic lifestyles and I highly recommend them. Nearly every single one of my health complaints (and the list used to be quite long and included wheat and dairy allergies, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue) have vanished, thanks to following his health advice.
