Did you know that next year is the 50th anniversary of the greatest record label of all time? No, not K-Tel. Motown!
The black-owned, black-run independent label coming out of Detroit that brought us Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie (looking hot in this picture with superstar snapper Annie Liebowitz, btw) and Charlene of ‘Never Been To Me Fame’ is being celebrated in the current issue of Vanity Fair (the one with Kate Winslet on the cover) with new shots by AL of Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves (of Vandellas, ‘Dancing in the Streets’ etc fame) and the brilliant old lady who used to run the Motown charm school.
Personally, we’ll be celebrating this milestone by wearing full-length gloves and lip-synching to ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’… See the VF Motownery here.
