Just make sure you don’t fuck it up…

You can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes.

They’re making a new version of Absolutely Fabulous.

Who they?

The Americans. (Hello dears, btw.)

Oof, now then. The Office? Yes. One Foot In The Grave? No. (Remember that one? Bill Cosby?). Erm, okay, it’s actually just come to our attention that there actually haven’t been that many American versions of British comedies. Not that actually made it past mood-board stage. They keep threatening us with The Vicar of Dibley, Kirsty Alley stylee, but not a whiff of that as of yetteth. Eee.

But we’ll tell you what we do know. They’re (the Americans *waves*) making their own version of our dear, dear, dearly beloved Absolutely Fabulous. In that a pilot has been ordered. Just so long as it’s not that fella-me-lad who likes diving into the Hudson. Brrrr.

The good bit is that they’ve got Jennifer Saunders in as exec producer (which basically just means kerching).

The news we’ve not made up our minds about is that it’ll be set in Los Angeles. New York would make more sense.

No idea who the turns will be.

So let’s now watch a random selection of Ab Fab clips yanked off-of YouTube… It’s not like anyone’s got any work to do. It’s a recession, put your feet up…

  1. Probably not good news. So extraordinarily British, it’s hard to know how they’ll do it. Then again, you could say the same about The Office.

  2. Didn’t Roaseanne try that a few years back? With the drinking, smoking, swearing and drug references taken out it was as flat as Charlton Heston’s ECG readout. Shite.

  4. Ugh.

We already tried this once, with the little-known sitcom “High Society” (with Mary McDonnell off-of Battlestar Galactica, Jean Smart off-of Designing Women). Flop.

But then, Saunders EPing is heartening…As long as it doesn’t turn out like our version of “Coupling.” (Though one could argue the source material on that one wasn’t very good to start with.)

  5. I remember reading about Roseanne’s version (and I love Jean Smart) but I never saw it on the telly here in the states. Was it on for three weeks or what?

  6. Roseanne’s attempt never got picked up by a network – too risky for the US of A for the aforementioned reasons…

But, it gets worse: Fox are going to be making it. Yes, Fox as in Rupert Murdoch’s Fox aka ‘The George Bush TV network’. Whilst Ol’ W was a drunk, the similarity ends there. Fox making AbFab is about as appropriate as asking Pete Doherty to star as Mary Poppins. (Except that whilst that would be a car crash, you’d probably want to check it out).
