Now there are some things about this year’s Comic Relief that we’re quite liking/looking forward to. Those two dance routines on Let’s Dance, where the dirty spirit of Gay Bingo was brought to prime time Saturday telly; French & Saunders & Lumley re-doing Mamma Mia (honey, it needs re-doing, let’s face it); Bianca off-of EastEnders shouting the odds on Celebrity Apprentice with Carol Vorderman, Alan Carr, Gok Wan (oh, well, you can’t win ’em all); anything that doesn’t have Lenny Henry on it.
But the jury is out – running errands, taking advantage of the Pizza Hut £4 pizza/garlic bread/soft drink offer, flicking through Chit Chat magazine in The Kabin – on whether we are looking forward to the return of Robbie Williams in a Little Britain sketch about two little American girls on a sleepover.
‘It’s hard to say no when asked to take part in a Little Britain sketch for Comic Relief,’ sayeth the artist formerly known as the Robster. ‘But I have to admit that dressing up as a small American child in a pretty dress made it all the more appealing.’
We’ll see but we are feeling that now every fat cankled girl in Ugg boots has jumped ship from Robbie to the knitting-pattern-come-to-life that is Take That, we’re feeling a lot better about the overweight drunk that was once a national treasure. See the two sketches on Fridee night from 7pm. Or watch Coronation Street. We know what we’ll be doing.
