Can we just be serious for one moment here and say how amazing this film is going to be? No? Oh, OK. Fair dos.

Dowdy means awards are being sought here

You know if Mariah Carey is prepared to look like this then there is some pretty serious shit going down. And the shit don’t come much more serious than the film version of what is one of our – really and truly! – most favouritest books of all time. Push by Sapphire. And while the idea of someone making a movie out of one of your favouritest books of all time often strikes fear into the soul, this actually looks, you know, not bad.

The basic idea – and you’re going to have so much more respect for us now that you see we are caring and sharing and even own a garment made out of cheesecloth – is of an illiterate, HIV positive, teenage single mother, on the heavy side, trying to make something of her life. So far, so Hallmark, but you’re going to have to trust us on this, the book at least is a masterpiece: written by a poet in the style and fashion of someone who is learning to write! And, like we say, if ‘Riah is prepared to go brunette, you know it must be for a good reason.

Produced by Oprah and co-starring Lenny Kravitz (not sure about that bit), Push is now available in trailer format for your very own peepers. Enjoy over the jump…
