Call us old fashioned. Call us not down with the kids. Call us grown-up with a modicum of musical taste. But did JLS really – no REALLY – come up with the best single of the year? No, of course they didn’t. Unless you voted for them to win a Brit, that is (why this mania for democracy? Let someone who knows something vote the best single).
They also won an award for British Breakthrough. So there you have it.
In sunnier news, Lily Allen got Best Female (shoulda been Leona) and was given it by Her Damest of Shirley Basseys; Lady GaGa got Best Int Female, Best Int Album and Best Int Breakthrough and got one of those by friend and confidant Mika; Robbie and the Spice Girls were there to receive ‘heritage’ awards; Liam Gallagher proved he’s lost none of the old magic by throwing his Brit (best album of the last 30 years!) into the crowd and lots of music industry twats got drunk and coked up and tried to feel up their secretaries.
Another glorious night for British culture.
