We love Simon Casson off-of Duckie, the Vauxhall music hall-type club night-type thing. Sorry, Olivier Award-winning Duckie. It’s true. They won an Olivier for C’est Barbican in 2006!
The latest prank, sorry, theatrical piece was inspired by the fact that Simon could never help himself falling asleep whenever he went to the theatre (our problem is the light is always so low we can barely read our magazines!) So, he thought he’d make a virtue of it.
What it is is… You turn up at the Barbican in London’s glittering east, you change into your pie-jams, brush your teeth, clamber into bed (there are singles, doubles and triples, for the saucy among you) and listen to a performance designed to send you to sleep. ‘Theatre is often challenging and confrontational, but we’re not having any of that,’ Simon says (put your hands on your head). ‘It’s going to be comforting and cosset you, like your mum or dad reading you stories at night when you were a child.’
Then, when you have fallen asleep, you get to stay there till morning when they wake you up for breakfast and a shower! In a top London theatre!
Fantastic value when you think what a night in a hotel costs. There’ll be no one sleeping in Chariots Roman Spa between 24th June and 24th July next year!
