Those people at the Independent are very clever. Clever enough to get a multi-squillionaire Russian to back them. Clever enough to realise that when sitting on the Tube one does not have five square feet to open out The Guardian. But unfortch not clever enough to realise that a picture of some houses on the cover of their first ever issue of i – the clever people’s paper only much smaller and more to the point – isn’t much of a seller.
But our focus group has just come out of an ugly office in Milton Keynes and the findings are the following. They liked the 20p price tag and the condensed nature of the news reporting but found there weren’t enough pictures of kittens or footballers running around in their underwear and on balance preferred to pick up their hard news over at www.me-me-me.tv.
You can’t win ’em all, Indies.
