He’s no Roland Rat, for sure, but Rastamouse here is causing all sorts of trouble. Not for selling weed down Brixton market or playing his Robert Marley records too loud. No, it’s the way he speaks. Parents don’t want their kids talking like someone from downtown Kingston, Jamaica apparently.
Despite being from the esteemed house of Postman Pat with The Clangers, Paddington Bear and The Wombles as inspirations, Rastamouse – a fighter of crime and player of reggae – has been attacked for presenting a stereotype. Albeit a really cute one.
‘The show has a strong message,’ says the producer Greg Boardman. And that message? ‘Through love, understanding and respect, Rastamouse will make a bad thing good.’ Like Diana Ross!
See a snippy snip of Rastamouse doing his thang after the jump. Sorry, da jump…httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZCvydOxcq0
