Is ‘shame’ really the right word for someone stripping down to their panties and jumping in the water? As in ‘England’s rugby shame’?

So there was England rugby player Manu Tuilagi returning on a ferry from defeat at the Rugby World Cup or somesuch when he gets it into his head to strip down to some black and red boxer briefs and jump from the ferry into the sea.

We can think of many words to describe this action: ‘funny’, ‘silly’, ‘drunken’, ‘slightly sexy’. But, according to the press,  it has cemented England’s shame. And the rugby players’ association or whatever has fined Mr. Tuilagi £3,000.

They do know he’s a rugby player, right? And rugby players are under contract to strip down to their underwear and get themselves wet. They obviously caught him before the real traditional stuff like sucking each other’s cocks in a totally non-sexual way and beating each other on the backside in a totally non-sexual way began.

  1. Well, he certainly fills out the underwear nicely.
