In a wonderful ‘I’m not changing my show, Freddie’ moment from Our Glorious Leader, Madonna has decided to go on with her, erm, show in St. Petersburg and never mind that they’ve just passed a law outlawing the promotion of homosexuality. How do you do that, by the way? Buy one, get one free? DFS-style discounts on buggery all the time? Free anal sex every time you buy a t-shirt that’s slightly too tight? Who can say, but we’re very much in favour.
Anyways, despite being urged to pull out (there’s an anal sex joke there if you want it. Do you think that counts as promoting homosexuality?), Madonna has decided that she will go ahead and promote the bejesus out of homosexuality live on stage in that godforsaken town.
‘I’m a freedom fighter,’ she wrote. You know, she has a point. She did that SEX book, which is still pretty out there and she did tell the Pope to sling his hook.
‘My show. My songs. My work … My art. Is all about freedom of expression, Freedom to choose to speak to act. Always with humanity and compassion. I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community, to support the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed.’
*bobs cursey, crosses self, sprinkles self with holy water, lights small candle, mutters some stuff, goes into confession box, comes out refreshed*
She may be a little pompous sometimes, but Madonna's still our girl,
