The religiouses are at it again. While they could be out picketing the weddings of people who have already had sex (something that is actually condemned in black and white in that Bible they are constantly reading in a format that is sometimes zipped up to masquerade as a purse or wallet – smart for town!), they are still hung up on the gays. It’s like they have their noses pressed up against the window of Compton’s muttering to each other, ‘Don’t worry. We’ll stop them somehow.’
This time they have come up with a very snappy ‘answer’ to Stonewall’s peerless Some People Are Gay. Get Over It! campaign. With a willful disregard for any idea of grammar or sense, it is apparently designed to challenge the idea that homosexuality is innate. Oh, OK. Yeah, we got that.
It is the brain child (though we use the term ‘brain’ with caution and obviously wouldn’t let any child of ours anywhere near the buggers) of the Anglican Mainstream and the Core Issues Trust. They described Stonewall’s campaign as an ‘attempt to close down critical debate about being gay’. As dyed-in-the-wool bum bandits with a wiggle in our walk and a giggle in our talk we would like to say there is no critical debate about being gay. Heaven knows, we’re too busy bumming to ever have time to debate it.
They also said that the ‘promotion of homosexual practices to children and young people, many of whom are known to experience ambivalence as they sort through issues of sexual identity, is misleading and dangerous’. Not quite as dangerous as getting raped by the vicar, but still dicey apparently.
The campaign – Some People Are Gay. Get Over It! – to recap, was designed to help children at school who were getting bullied, abused, attacked, driven to suicide because they were gay or perceived to be gay. Simple as that. It was there to say, ‘You are OK. Anyone who has a problem with you needs to sort themselves out.’ It seems fair enough really.
Talking to Christians is never worth the time as you’re always going to run up against the issue that they believe things that are patently not true and base their lives and their opinions on that. So let’s not talk to them.
Religiouses – we couldn’t give a flying fuck about you. Now will you please extend to us the same courtesy?
'Not Gay! Ex-Gay, Post-Gay And Proud. Get Over It!' Hmmm, doesn't quite have the same ring,
