You may have picked up on the fact that here at the me-me-me.tv suite of Homosexualist Towers we have little time for the clergy. Or ‘fairy-believing fuckwits’ as we prefer to call them. The one exception to this is cute old funny old Desmond Tutu off-of South Africa.
An almost lone voice of reason among the mentalists of the Church (or the Evil Empire as we prefer to call it), he has now written in medical journal The Lancet, in a piece about how to tackle HIV among ‘men who have sex with men’ (or bum chums as we prefer to call them) that he thinks history will look very poorly on the homophobes…
‘I have no doubt that in the future, the laws that criminalise so many forms of human love and commitment will look the way the apartheid laws do to us now—so obviously wrong,’ he says. ‘Such a terrible waste of human potential… The papers in The Lancet Series on HIV in men who have sex with men tell us about how far we have to go in providing care, in acceptance, in ceasing to withhold our love.
‘They also tell us what we each already know, if we are prepared to be honest with ourselves—that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people are a part of every human community.’
Hats – and bonnets and white gloves – off to Toots. Now, if he could only shake the fairy-believing we’d have him round for some very dirty martinis. Filthy ones.
You've got to love Desmond Tutu, Toots to his friends.,
